Staying Positive 101


Hey, cuties!! As you know from yesterday’s post, our color of the month is yellow & our theme is all about positivity! I’m a pretty positive person, some of it comes naturally or from how I was raised, but a lot comes from continually working at it. Like confidence, positivity is a muscle that needs to be regularly flexed and exercised to be maintained. SO, today I’m sharing some of my tips for maintaining an overall positive outlook. This is part 1, focused on the things you can do TODAY to be more positive and productive tomorrow. They are simple changes everyone can make, most or physical or simple switches. Later I’ll share more intense changes you can make to help your mental state but wanted to start you out small.

SMILE 

It sounds silly, but a smile can brighten your day and the day of those around you. A simple smile on the outside helps to push your mind to a positive place on the inside. As someone who’s been accused of having an RBF in high school, I worked hard to change that and was surprised how it changed my mood. I draw a smiley face or slapped a smiley face sticker on my hand/notebook or anything else I would see regularly. I would paint my nails yellow as a reminder. When I would see these triggers, I would smile and did it so much it became a habit. Soon my “resting” face became a slight smile, mouth closed & eyes open. When I moved to NYC I noticed how people would smile back at me on the street because I was smiling their way. Even now, while I’m staying at home and practicing social distancing Paris and I make an effort to look over and smile at each other multiple times a day even if we have nothing to say. I’ll say “hi!” smile and wave at him 3 or 4 times a day like a crazy person lol, but it really can help propel you forward with your other activities or add a positive spin to your day!

GRATITUDE 

Again, it may not feel like it would make a significant difference, but it’s easy to feel like the world is against you abstractly, and its harder to do so when you have proof of positivity. Writing down what you’re grateful every day in a journal or even sending it to yourself as a text message (this is my favorite way) gives you a chance to SEE all the good things you have going for yourself. Even if this doesn’t come naturally, you can foster the attitude of gratitude, and then spread it by sharing this with others. For me, I work hard to share gratitude with my team, and anyone I work with, telling them how great of a job they are doing helps boost everyone’s mood – mine included.         

POSITIVE PEOPLE 

Positivity is contagious, so keep positive company, and it will impact your mood – promise! This goes for online too, make sure you’re following pages who lift you and keep you happy! The more positivity you have around you, the easier it will be to attract and the easier it will be for you to keep a positive outlook!

WEAR COLOR 

Color will brighten your mood PROMISE! Adding pop to your outfit, even when you’re indoors will help brighten your day and the days of those around you. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve made a stranger smile with a yellow outfit. Even tho most of my outfits contain sweat pants right now; I’ve been keeping it colorful to help brighten everyone’s (my mom, Paris & Waffles) day.

GIVE BACK 

Giving back feels good, and maybe that’s selfish, but it’s true. Finding a way to help someone else can give your day a positive spin. It’s tough to praise yourself what you do for you, but its harder to argue that you aren’t doing good when you see how it brightens someone else’s day! So find a way to give back! Donate to an organization & share it on your stories to help spread the message! Shop from a small business or just like / comment on their page. Giving back doesn’t even need to be actual charity; you can do something KIND. Send a friend a sweet message, leave a nice comment on someone’s page, send a smile in a DM, something simple and kind can have the same effect. There are ENDLESS ways to give back, now more than ever.

POSTURE 

Sit up straight! Check your posture and watch how it improves your mood. Your mind and body are connected! Anytime I feel mentally blocked, I get up and dance! This helps me feel powerful and can help me get things done. The same goes for posture, roll your shoulders back, elevate your neck, and watch how that energy changes your energy as well. 

START YOUR DAY IN A POSITIVE WAY 

Find one small and positive way to start your day. A morning cup of your favorite coffee or tea in a cute mug, a dance party to your favorite song right now, a snuggle session with your puppy, mediation, yoga, an awesome show, or by watching an episode of a TV show you love. I start my day with pokemon, squats, snuggling waffles & tea,k this combo puts me in a positive place for the rest of the day
