Spring Twist
Oh hey, incase you haven’t noticed – spring has totally sprung and I’m so FREAKING EXCITED.So if you have eyes, a pulse or an instagram you can tell it’s totally that time of year where your feed gets flooded with the obligatory flower shopping pics (I’m pretty sure I’ve already posted three – and be three I mean seven – and its been spring for like 24 hours … so sorry bout that). But Spring is for so many things, bare legs, open toed shoes and a time to try all of the latest trends – some old, and some new. But since sticking to one trend is a total snooze fest, why not pair two contrasting ones, seamlessly? We got this!Hmmm, two trends we love for Spring but are kind of sort of total opposites? Oh I know – let’s pair sporty styles with girly florals for a mash-tastic and totally unexpected look? Challenge accepted! Sporty spice & posh were friends once right (who knows, maybe they still are, please say yes) so let’s just pretend they had a braided crown, lipstick wearing love child and this outfit is it!
I fell head over heels for this crazy cute & semi-sporty tee (plus i totally didn’t hate the under $50 price tag) and I knew we would be fast friends. I wear her with distressed jeans on replay, but decided to pair her with something a little girly instead and wham, bam, thank you pam (and by pam, I mean Cynthia… Cynthia Rowley that is, because she designed my new fav skirt) this look was born. Tucking this loose & sporty tee into a neoprene floral skirt gave both of the pieces a totally different vibe. This tee that usually screams “cool & caz” got a girly-make over while this twirly worthy skirt, got totally turned down in the best way possible for a weekend-chic look.Just because I gave this flirty skirt a downtown twist, doesn’t mean I couldn’t dress up the look with fun accessories. A classic, quilted bag (that’s currently 20% off here), serious arm party and oversized sunnies help round out the look by adding a touch of glam. Plus, over the Knee Boots on bare legs, serve as the perfect transitional piece for Spring all while bringing the Drama to this sporty-chic style.P.S. if you love my braid, learn more about how to get the look hereMixing styles doesn’t have to be hard, pick two things that kind of contradict each other and find a common thread, like a color, pattern or even fabric. I took the easy way out by pairing two black pieces together, so it looked unique yet purposeful. You can try the same thing by playing in a color family, or recreating the exact same look with the pieces below. Either way you work it, just remember opposites attract!
