Saturated Sundaze
Lets face is Sunday’s are for eating and for exploring (mostly eating), so when you can combine the two into one activity I’m so totally game.
This weekend, I spent sunday with some seriously cool peeps- Krista of Covering Bases and Kristin of Color Me Kirstin… (JK Kristin isn’t a blogger just my bestie, but that’s pretty freaking cool too right?) oh yeah and Paris and Andrew came too, but whatever… girls rule, boys drool.
Above Kristin and I snuggling up in the Sun
Below Krista, mocking my #basicblogger poses lol
If you live in New York you’ve probably, maybe, slightly heard of this cool little thing hush hush thing called Smorgasburg (jks it’s like totally a big deal here and people can’t stop talking about it) and if you don’t live in New York, you have no idea what I am talking about – but what else is new? Anyways Smorgasburg – is this hip/trendy brooklyn flea like situation where some of New York & Brooklyns cool restaurants put up booths and congregate in one location – so basically you get to try some of the city’s coolest food IN ONE PLACE – AKA what dreams are made of.
Because I am obviously a bad person with something seriously wrong with me, I had yet to visit this magical place despite my two plus years of New York living. So when Krista suggested we venture down to brooklyn to stuff our faces, I was seriously so down.
You can drool over all the magical vendors offered here, but why read the official reviews and menu items when I can take you on the Color Me Courtney (with a dash of Krista) food tour – I promise, it will be so much more fun to see our awesome iPhone photos and hear about our food fails than to check out any professional images or reviews.
Mac and Cheese is always a good idea right? wrong. When it’s crazy hot and you have to stand in line for like ever (and get yelled at by some cranky guy named Brandon for accidentally cutting – It was an accident Brandon! Chill out Brughh) the Mac & Cheese / Grilled Cheese stand is probably not the best idea, whoops. But none the lest, Krista and I had the genius idea to go here first (well after we took a good three laps around the place, there is such a thing as too many options!!).
The Mac & Cheese / Grilled Cheese was crazy good, but I basically overheated while eating it. Then I devoured a whole coconut water (that someone chopped with a real machete and served in a real coconut – because it’s that serious) which is saying something, because I don’t even really like coconut water that much, but I wanted to feel like a super tropical local so you know, I walked the walk and drank the drink, and truthfully it did cool me down… well kinda.
When I asked Krista what her fav eat of the day was, she captured my thoughts exactly – “My favorite thing was the things I didn’t eat like the ramen burger the fries and the donut”. Haha Oh well, I guess that gives us a reason to go back, right?
I can’t believe I’m saying this, but that Mac & Cheese and belly full of coconut filled me up (who am I) but the rest of our Sunday Squad dabbled in some other goodies that I totally tried before diving head first into two scoops of cookies and cream ice cream …uhm, YUM!
After eating everything (well, kind of) we decided to talk a walk on the bright side. Krista was heading to the rainbow wall (also in brooklyn) to shoot for Covering Bases, so we tagged along to watch (and dance) along this crazy colorful wall… and of course, we snapped a few pics – DUH!
In summary, if you plan on having a Sunday eating exploration at Smorgasburg make sure you 1) don’t wear high waisted shorts like I did (whoops) because you’ll surely have a food baby and it won’t be pretty, 2) don’t eat the hottest food there if its kind of crazy hot outside (double whoops) and 3… and this is the most important rule of all – go with good friends because honestly, that’s really all that matters.
