Secret Spots
Hello & welcome back to March. – our month of yellow!
SO to kick off our month full of yellow I wanted to show you how to dip your toe into this not-so-mellow color, literally, by using it as the perfect pop of color. Plus I’m sharing the secret behind this spotted dress! Wearing yellow can be intimidated, so if you’re interested in trying it but scared you can’t pull it off this look is for you!
Everyone owns something black and white, right so why not spice it up with a little pop of yellow. Here I’m pairing a mustard yellow shoe & coat with an otherwise black and white look to make it a little bit more fun and alot more spring.

Mustard is usually thought of as a fall color, but depending on what you pair it with style and color wise you can totally make it work all year around. It’s the perfect way to reuse some of your favorite from fall and winter as we start to transition into spring, just make sure you wear it with pieces that feel light and fresh like this flower dotted dress.

Let’s talk about this dress, because it’s technically not just a dress… I know right! Although I’m known for wearing color, every so often I’ll invest in something black and white that I can pop up with a color splash, plus I love a graphic print!. When I saw this black and white polka dot pattern I was instantly smitten, but didn’t know if I wanted to get the mini wrap dress or the asymmetrical mini skirt, because they’re both fairly affordable at under $75, I decided to invest in both.

When the dress came in, I was a little surprised about how short it was. It’s a true mini dress, and probably made for someone with no junk in the trunk. As soon as it hit my peach my curves swallowed it hole and it was suddenly very short on … sad. Instead of returning it, I figured I would turn it into a top! I un wrapped it, and took tied the two pieces in a knot at my sternum. If I had bigger boobs that warranted the support of a bra or just wanted to give my girls a little lift, I would have wrapped the fabric around my bra and tied it there to hold everything in place. But since I hate wearing bras and ditch them whenever possible, I just went without.
After tying up the dress as a top, my whole bottom would have been exposed, so I could easily pair it with high waisted wide leg pants or a high waisted skirt! Since I had the match matchy midi in the same print, I paired them together for some serious spots! I have also since worn this dress as a top with other pieces, but don’t think I’ll ever wear it as a true dress because it’s so short.
You can try this trick with any of your wrap dresses, even longer midi ones to pair with jeans, pants or high waisted skirts. They also make for great beach cover ups when you tie them up like this. It’s a great way to make your wardrobe work overtime and get the most out of your favorite pieces.
