Red’s Color Me BFF

Another day, another post … who’s REDDY!
Yeah thats right, we’re still in our first month of color where we cover RED and why I love it. Today we’re talking color combos aka what to wear red with.
I’ll be listing out the color combos in order from easy peasy to pull off (level 1) up to GIRL YOU CRAZY I CANT WEAR THAT (aka level 5) so you can try the color level that works for you. The only color combo I WON’T SHARE RN is my favorite one (I know, I’m the worst) which isn’t actually the hardest to pull off but is my favorite to wear. I will be taking about it next month so stay tuned for that.
Okay, let’s dive on in.
LEVEL 1 – AKA color combos for beginners
RED + BLACK / RED + WHITE / RED + BROWN – Neutrals booo-ringggg, right? Here is how to rock the easiest way to wear red without dozing off. BC Just because you’re only playing with one color doesn’t mean you have to loose your natural sense of style whimsy right? Right!
HOW TO WEAR IT
Try a red fur coat with a back and white turtleneck – is there anything more chic that black & white? OH YEAH black white and red
Alllll black I’m talking pants, top, purse, shoes & one pop of red
Red laces in your brown boots
Lots of red accessories with a white sweater & jeans

LEVEL 2 – It’s a breeze, You got this.
RED + BLUE – You can’t go wrong with Red & Blue. Light blue, dark blue, royal, navy, turquoise THEY ALL LOOK AWESOME.
HOW TO WEAR IT
ANYWAY
With blue jeans
With a navy striped tee
With all blue and a pop of red (or all red and a pop of blue if you’re bold)
With baby blue & neutrals
With nautical styling
I MEAN THE LIST GOES ON….

LEVEL 3 – It can come easy if you’re bold enough to try!
RED + YELLOW – Opposites attract, so why not apply THIS theory to your outfits? I say go for it.  I love a red and yellow combo but a lot of people think it’s too “mcdonalds”. I don’t like to give brands that kind of power of me #rebel so I wear it anyways, plus the fact that a giant organization choose these two colors to work together proves that they’re meant to be together
HOW TO WEAR IT
Try a red top + yellow accessories (sunglasses, bag, earrings) this way you don’t have to invest in as many yellow pieces since this is a color so many fear
Style a yellow sweater with a red lip
Rock Red & yellow printed piece
—-
LEVEL 4 – Not for the faint of heart
RED + PURPLE – Feeling regal? A red & purple combo make a great pair because of where they land on the color wheel. These have been the colors fo queens for like ever, so its perfect for you, your majesty. Because this combo can be SO BOLD many fear it, but when done right it will look sassy but not costumey
HOW TO WEAR IT
Try all red with a pop of purple – letting the red be the star works best for this combo
Find a red printed dress with pops of purple, pull out those pops in your shoes or accessories
Dress up a purple coat with all black styling and a red lip
Still Level 4…
RED + TURQUOISE/TEAL – Another really fun (but kind of hard) color combo is turquoise or teal with red. This is one of the most unexpected combos and something you never really see, so naturally I love it. Just like how blue and red work so well together, turquoise & teal (in the blue family) look great too.
Play with textures by pairing fur with knits to keep your look separate and interesting
Gold bold with a bright turquoise and offset it with ruby red
Wear all red & make your bestie wear all teal so you look greattttt together (see below photo of me & lex, I think its from 2014 lol)
Dip yourself in teal, but add a red pop south of your ankles or as your handbag.

LEVEL 5 – ARE YOU COLOR ME CRAZY?
RED + GREEN  Aside from my favorite favorite combo (wait for it) this is my second favorite color combo and the hardest one to pull off. I’ve always been obsessed with Red & green but people fear it because it’s “christmasy” … but let me let you in on a secret, it doesn’t have to be. The key here is to stay away from traditional cherry red & everyone’s go to kelly green, at least together. Pair a unique shade of red with a classic green color, and vise versa.
HOW TO WEAR IT
Try a green sweater + Jeans + Red lip
Pair a emerald green dress with ruby anything
Rock red orange with anything kelly green
Try light or mint green with classic red
Work anything cranberry with a unexpected emerald or forest green
Pair army green with ruby red, or even red orange.

&WHO SAYS YOU CAN ONLY HAVE TWO? Wanna be really hard core? Mix 3 or more colors with red, here is some Inspo to get you hyped:
AND MY FAVORITE COMBO EVER IS ….
Well you’ll have to wait and see, I’ll tell you all about it next month! Until then, care to guess? Leave me some love in the comments below and let me know what you think it is! Here’s a hint … @colormecourtney lol.
But I will leave you with this
Almost everything works well with red, but these colors are best left for other pairings. There are always exceptions but as a general rule stay away from them when working with red.
THE ONLY COLORS I DON”T RECOMMEND WEARING WITH RED
Orange – they’re too similar
Peach/Coral – they’re basically sisters
Red Orange – girl bye, can you even tell the difference? It just looks like you tried to make it monochrome but couldn’t close the deal
Grey – I mean you can, but I just think its pretty boring
K BYE
