This just in, I broke a fashion rule and today I’m going to tell you alllll about it + what a typical sunday looks like for us.

Guys won’t wear Adidas socks and Nike shoes in the name of loyalty but will cheat on their girlfriend if a ‘bad b*tch’ so much as breathes in their direction. I. Have. Questions. – my friend & one of my favorite comedians Jackie Tinsley

So there’s this unspoken rule, or I don’t know maybe it’s a spoken rule, in sneaker culture that you’re not supposed to mix brands. Most wouldn’t be caught dead wearing an Adidas shirt with Nike shoes because it’s a HUGE no-no and Paris remind me of this almost every day, thanks Paris. I can’t say I understand it, I’m not super loyal to any particular sneaker brand. And in general, I like to mix matches just like I like to mix colors make prints and pretty much mix anything. But to be honest I don’t run into this issue that much because I’m not a huge logo girl, so I’m not really wearing things that say Nike across them in big bold letters with the exception of the skirt I found this card a few months back we were actually in the Nike store it was sold out in store if I had to order it online but I lovedddd it. I actually loved it so much I bought it again so I have two of the exact same skirt in case one ever gets destroyed or damaged!  It’s just such an easy piece to throw on on your way out the door or to style up with fun sporty pieces.

The look featured in todays post is one I wore last weekend & here is a breakdown of that day:

We woke up and headed to Sweet chick for brunch – it’s my favorite brunch place in the city because it’s one of the only places that has biscuits and gravy. I got one order of biscuits and gravy (it’s a side portion so I usually get two), Maple bacon (ITS SO GOOD), Orange juice and a side of their sticky bun waffle which was OK, good but not great. I usually opt for mac & cheese or something like that instead but I wanted to try something new. Paris’s favorite thing on the menu is the fried chicken eggs Benedict but he only gets it with have a portion of chicken.

After brunch we Headed uptown to a theater on the upper West side. My friend Kristin was in town, she’s been playing the role of Minnie mouse or Mickey Mouse on various Disney shows, cruise lines, and tours for the past seven years. Right now she’s on tour so we went to see her show for the very first time. If you watch my Instagram stories you know that Paris got pulled up on stage and it was pretty entertaining for me.

Post show we went to Levain to get cookies which are some of the best cookies in the city their know for giant monster cookies and if you haven’t ever had one what are you waiting for. I love the dark chocolate peanut butter or the chocolate chip walnut. Paris is pretty exclusive to the chocolate chip walnut and gets mad at me if I ever order and oatmeal raisin but I like those ones too because they kind of taste more like a muffin and less like a cookie.

After the cookies we headed back downtown to Soho where we went to the Converse X Chinatown market Pop up. There I got to design a pair of Converse so I spelled out the word color me on the converse and added a signature smiley face on the tongue. Paris designed a Dragon Ball Z pair for my brother.

Next we took these photos and then went to our favorite place for dinner,  Rubys. Rubys is an Australian place that owned and operated by you guessed it Australians. It’s been one of my favorite places in the city since moving here almost 6 years ago. I almost always get the Brontë burger and this time Paris got the blueys is which is like a chicken burger. Rubys it’s on the border of noLiTa and Little Italy so it’s about a 45 minute walk from where we live on the other side of the city but we always walk home after and just enjoy New York and each other’s company.   And that was our casual sunday, most weekends look a lot like this only we will have to fit in filming of that motion video shooting content or just catching up on work from the week.

Alright back to this look

The thing I don’t understand most about the no logo mixing rule is that it only applies to some logos like Nike and Adidas can’t be seen together but I could wear Nike and maybe a lesser known brand like Wilson and it’s no big deal which makes no sense! Again my main point of reference for all of it is Paris and my brother who used to be a huge sneaker collector, but they’re pretty involved in the sneaker culture so I’m gonna take their word for it.

When I went to wear the skirt last weekend I first paired it with a cropped Wilson hoodie that I got from forever 21 (ps their Wilson collection is so cute) And my polkadot Fila a sneakers that I LOVVEEE and picked up from urban outfitters a few weeks ago. I showed the look to Paris and said “hey is this OK to wear this hoodie with the skirt”, he looked me up and down and said yes but then asked what shoes I was wearing – once I showed him my Fila sneaker he gave me the dirtiest look and I knew that meant NOPE! So that means that I was OK to wear the Wilson branded hoodie with the Nike branded skirt but not the Fila sneakers, OK sure. I quickly put on the second look (pictured) wearing a branded Nike skirt with my branded fanny pack but since it’s not a sports brand and I guess it’s OK to wear? KKKKK. I pulled on a cropped long sleeve and a bralette to wear underneath before grabbing some matching coral Nike shoes, but I really wanted to wear some sporty like socks with the look and the only ones I had that complemented the matching yellow top where these yellow Adidas ones.

When I yelled “Paris can I wear nike shoes with Adidas socks” from my closet the quick response was “absolutely not”. But after taking a look he changed his mind, I’m not sure if he was just annoyed of me trying on outfits or if he was just really gonna let it slide… either way he said as long as you can’t see the adidas logo I’m okay, and we were out the door. We skipped of to brunch and I don’t think anyone really notice that I was mixing brands but to put it to the true test I posted it on Instagram and ask you guys to notice the serious fashion rule I was breaking with this outfit. Most of you guessed white after Labor Day which I didn’t even think as a rule because I’ve never ever abided by it and some of you said other rules that I hadn’t even considered. A select few know that that I was wearing Adidas socks with Nike shoes and called it out either way I don’t really care about mixing brands and probably aware that first outfit that I wanted to wear some other time and see what you guys think.

I understand why this was the rule or even still is the rule but I kind of think that maybe we can have all path and doesn’t mix brands because really who cares. With all that said I do respect the rules of sneaker culture because I realize I’m only kind of culture adjacent and not a huge part of it. Either way –   I wanna know what you guys think are you OK with brand mix thing or is it a huge no-no in your opinion. SOUND OFF.
