Lilac Lipstick

As I’m sure you probably know, I’m really into odd color combos – the more unexpected the better! So today I’m sharing a current color combo I’m into + a simple way to spread happiness this season.

LILAC + RED: It’s no secret that lilac has been totally trending this year, and not just for spring. Much to my delight, we’ve held onto it for fall & winter too. I’ve collected quite a few lilac pieces over the year and recently fell in love with the lipstick sweater for a few reasons: it’s bold & graphic, it celebrates lipstick & it inspired me to try a new color combo; so naturally I had to have it // Shop my sweater

I paired this lipstick lilac piece with a little bit of lilac and a lot of holiday red. I’m not afraid of bold outfits like this so you’ll rarely see me wearing a neutral, but some looks turn heads more than others. Last week, it was this orange & yellow look that I blogged about here, and two weeks ago it was this one I’m featuring today! The bold and unexpected color combo of lilac and red made so many strangers smile as I passed them on the street.

I wore this look when I stepped outside for one of the first times that week, so it was really nice to be greeted with so many smiles. If you’re having a bad day, I encourage you to dress like you’re not. Wearing something happy and bright can make you and the people around you smile. In turn, if you’re having a good day I hope you share it with a smile. I usually pick a color or category and remember to smile every time I see it, so If I choose red for the day I’ll smile each time I see it, or for a category I might smile anytime I see someone wearing a backpack or with their hair up. Some people don’t smile back or think you’re odd for doing so, but most will return it warmly. You never know what someone else is going through and just sharing that simple kindness or a smile can really help someone else. I wish I could thank all those people who smiled at me when I wore this look, it really helped get me through the rest of the day.
