Home,
Whistle While You Work
Hey cuties! Today I’m going to switch the conversation a bit and talk about how I’ve overcome my hate for cleaning, a few safer products that I use around my roommates (Waffles & Paris) and share a great cleaning playlist for you too!

I can be good at a lot of things but I’ll be honest cleaning isn’t one of them. I’m not going to lie I’m kind of a mess and always put off cleaning. This is partially because I don’t have much free time to do things like seriously clean my apartment and partially because it’s not a super fun thing for me, well it wasn’t until recently.
I’ve never been that person that gets satisfaction from cleaning, and I’m not a clean freak so it was always an activity I would put off for as longggg as possible. This year I’ve been working on turning not-so-pleasant activities into something I can find some joy in and overcoming that procrastination factor associated with them. At the top of that list? Cleaning.
Here are a few ways I got over my distaste for cleaning:
Make it fun – I’m really manipulative 😉 I can convince myself that even the worst of things are kind of fun with positive thoughts. So, the first step to getting over anything I don’t want to do, is to just do it and challenge myself to make it fun. I can never say no to a good challenge, so I usually rise to the occasion.
Dress the Part – You can also trick yourself into thinking that you’re a Disney princess, getting your clean on in a cute outfit I promise it will be less awful. This isn’t always the most realistic solution depending on what you are cleaning but when you’re using the bright red O-Cedar ® ProMist ® MAX Spray Mop this is totally an option.
Make a playlist – Another good tip I use getting through your not-so-favorite things is a good playlist. I use themed playlist for everything at every stage in my life. I have a good shower cry playlist for when I’m feeling sad or my favorite TV show gets cancelled, a cleaning out my closet playlist (that includes graduation by Vitamin C – obviously) & more so it’s only natural I have a cleaning one right? right. See it here
Kill two birds – Although I don’t love cleaning, I do love efficiency so any time I can check two boxes with one task I’m a happy camper. I help myself get over my hate for cleaning with a Now that we live in a long loft, I use cleaning as my cardio! I’ll dance all around the house, twirling and
Say yes to color – The same way a colorful dress can make everything better, colorful cleaning supplies can do the same.
Think of your Roommates – if you can’t do something for yourself, do it for someone else. I always want to find ways to make our lives better for both Waffles and Paris and if taking chores off his plate and putting them on mind gives Paris a little more time, then I’m all for it. Sharing a space can be a difficult thing, whether you are sharing with a significant other, a stranger or a friend. To keep things from getting complicated you might want to consider using a roommate agreement, Paris and I did something similar when we first started living together and it helped a lot with the transition.
My Roommates: I share my space with Waffles my French bulldog & Paris my Fiancé. Paris and I have lived together in three different apartments in NYC, the first was mine that he moved into and the second two were ones we found together and made our own. More recently a switch that has altered our living situation and division of labor in our apartment is Waffles. As some of you may know our pup was recently paralyzed from IVDD and has no control / function over his black legs or bladder. We’ve adjusted, and get along just fine but we each have additional responsibilities we have to take on as a result. One of the biggest issues we’ve faced is whenever Waffles gets excited he tends to tinkle, often while running (on his front two legs) down my very long loft hallway when Paris comes home. HI DAD!!!! Consequentially, I needed a cleaning solution that was quick and easy, something that I could chase him around with to keep our apartment pee free without harmful chemicals that might hurt little Waffie.

My Cleaning tool kit:
Wireless Headphones – Wireless headphones are my JAM I use them for almost everything: watching TV when Paris is sleeping, traveling, folding clothes in my closet, commuting, walking Waffles, cooking and of course cleaning. I own about 6 pairs all in different colors, but here are a few of my favorite pairs of wireless headphones below:
O-Cedar ® ProMist ® MAX Spray Mop –This has also become my cleaning BFF. In supplies I look for two things: convenience and safety. The biggest priority for me is I need products that are safe around Waffles (the ProMist MAX allows me to use whatever safe cleaning solution I want!). Additionally, I need something that WORKS, something that I can use quickly to clean up after him while running out the door (often in a princess dress), something that is small and stores easy in a NYC apartment and a bonus feature is something that is colorful and fits my aesthetic.
The Perfect Playlist – Take a tip from all of our favorite Disney Princesses, and whistle while you work! Here is my current cleaning playlist for you to try!
I hope this post got you in the cleaning spirit, or helped you learn a little bit more about live in Case de Color Me. Let me know if you want more home posts in the comments below
