Doubled Up
Hey cuties! As our month of green comes to a close (sad) I wanted to share some unpublished photos from Copenhagen and a dress cut that I love SO MUCH I purchased again in a different pattern.
So today I’m sharing a dress I bought last year and I loved SO MUCH that I had to swoop it up in another print. Plus I’m spilling a styling hack that lets you wear it 4 different ways – yay.
I bought this dress last year and took it on a fun family vacation when we sailed through the Netherlands on a Disney cruise! I then went on to wear the dress probably 6 or 7 more times over the summer: to blog events with heels, for work meetings with dressy flats, walking my dog Waffles with sneakers, to the beach as a skirt, out for ice cream with wedges AND MORE. It’s easy to wear, twirl worthy AND HAS POCKETS so a total win in my book. Plus the print is crazy cute and unique making it feel more like a vintage treasure and less like something off the rack. When I saw the same silhouette this summer I KNEW I needed it.
This Dress is one of my favorites for so many reasons
– The cut is perfect and so flattering for any body
– It is versatile and can be styled in so many ways, but also transitional into 4 different dress styles, see below.
– It comes in sizes XXS to XXL, I love that extended size range (I’m wearing a small in one and a medium in the other because I’m in-between the two sizes, with the small fits perfectly with no bra and a little snug with a bra while the medium is best with a bra but I could get away with going bra-less)
– IT HAS POCKETS – I know I said that already but come one, how amazing is that
– It’s lined, but the lining and dress are both in cool cotton making it breathable for your hottest of summers.
– The neckline is classic with a twist, making it not too revealing but not too modest either.
As I mentioned, this dress can be not only styled but actually styled a bunch of ways because it actually transforms into different pieces of clothing! I’ll prove to to you
FOUR WAYS TO WEAR THIS DRESS:
1: As intended – for the first way, just wear the dress as its meant to be worn. You can dress it up with heels or wear it with cute white sneakers. If you want to emphasize your waist try pairing it with a cute belt to break up the print and show off your smallest point! Plus this dress is structured and supportive enough I often wear it without a bra. See it here:
2: Off the shoulder – This dress zips up in the back and then leaves a key hole where the top buttons but it doesn’t have to. Instead try leaving it unbuttoned and tuck the back flaps inward creating a diagonal shape that opens up into a triangle. Then you can pull the straps off the shoulder and it wont budge all day. That’s how I wore it yesterday, but I used a strapless bra instead of gaining bra-less. See it here:
3: As a skirt – One of my favorite hacks (that I’ve shared before) is the ability to turn a skirt into a dress and this one is a perfect candidate. Here’s how: 1 – start with the dress off and zip it half way to the waist seam, 2 – fold the dress in half tucking the top half inside, 3 – if you can put the dress turned skirt on as without unzipping by putting it on over your head, but if you need to unzip it half or all the way you can it’s no biggie, 4 – once its on, zip and adjust as necessary and secure it with a belt to hide the seam. And viola you just found a way to double your wardrobe. I had actually already bought the skirt version of this dress (
shop it here) before I found the dress, after discovering the dress I quickly returned the skirt because I knew I didn’t need them both I could do the same thing with one piece instead of buying two.
4: As a top – You can also easily wear this as a top by tucking it into a longer and fuller skirt, wee! All you do is put the dress on and layer a skirt on over the top, you might need a belt to help with the transition.
HOW TO STYLE:
This dress can also be styled a million ways
– Dress it up with pointed pumps and a bold clutch to match
– Dress it down with sneakers for a day on your feet, try classic white
keds
– Layer under a cardigan or blazer and add flats to take it to the office
– Or slip into silk scarf to beat off a summer breeze
– Fight humidity and frizz with a boater hat or head scarf
– Go full vintage with retro sunnies & lace up oxfords
The first time I wore this dress I was in Copenhagen visiting Tivoli. I paired it with flats because we spent the day on our feet and a boater hat because my hair was looking TRAGIC. When I wore the rainbow version of the dress today, I paired It with pops of yellow and orange because they’re both reflected in the stripes. This print can be ALOT so I broke it up with a yellow belt, I think it makes the look more flattering and adds an unexpected element to the look, do you agree?
