Red,
Royal
Hey cuties!
I feel super honored and humbled to have somehow become one of the go-to sources for color combos… so much so that even royals across the pond are stalking my style. OK LIES, but after I got 200+ DMS from you guys yesterday saying that Meghan Markle was rocking a Color-Me inspired color combo I took notice! For the record I don’t think Meghan Markle follows my blog and think its much more likely that her look was paying tribute to Princess Diana, BUT I did take this opportunity to revisit a color combo I’ve been wearing for a while & thought it would be fun to recreate the look.
I love color (obvi) but there are a few hues that even I stay away from, and until about a year ago purple was at the top of the list. I don’t have anything against purple but I usually prefer warmer tones like yellows and reds over cooler ones like purple and blue. I actually owned very little of the color until a reader requested me to do some purple looks in mid 2017 and I realized I had to go shopping. So I invested in some purple pieces and started incorporating the color into my wardrobe more. I quickly started collecting color combos to amplify the hue and red + purple was at the top of the list.

Red and purple work together for a number of reasons, but the easiest answer is because of where they live on the color wheel. I KNOW I KNOW all I do is talk about the color wheel but it can really be your styling BFF. Red and Purple sit near each other on the color wheel and can be combined together to make pink, as a result the two hues make a complimentary and vibrant pairing without clash. This can also apply to non traditional shades of purple and red, such as lilac and coral (helllooo color of the month) or red-orange with fuchsia! Overall there is something very regal yet whimsical about the color combo, so I love that Meghan Markel wore it … since she’s actual royalty and you know I’m just over here trying to grab that self proclaimed title as the queen of color, #same.
THE LOOK // I could have gone out and bought her look or something nearly identical (especially since her dress is from Aritzia) but I wanted to challenge myself to create it with pieces I already had in my rainbow closet. My red coat is four years old and one of three red coats I own, I choose it because it had a cut most similar to Meghan’s SENTALER coat . Meghan’s dress is currently on sale for $40 but good luck finding it now, I ended up wearing the only purple dress I own that’s actually strapless but fit the bill. I actually love this dress so much I own it in 4 colors, YEP I’m a clothes hoarder … now you know! Continuing with the collecting trend, I’ve bought a new pair of J.crew red pumps annually for the past 4 of 5 years. I wear them to death destroying them in the city then reinvest in a new pair like these that I bought on Black Friday. I was excited to put them to use for the first time in this photo! Meghan’s bag is brown, but the only brown one I own is pretzel shaped so I opted for a red circle one from Forever 21 instead. I have a few splurge circle purses from Mansur Gavriel and have been meaning to invest in a red one too but this save style has been my placeholder. Paris’s look was all created from pieces he already owned as well. Paris is a little bit more colorful with his style and so he switched out jeans for striped pants and the grey coat for blue to add a little Pair-flair. Even with the swap, this look is still one of his most simple outfits I’ve ever seen him wear but love that he found a way to make it ring true to his sense of style.
