Closet Cleanout
Hey cuties! We’re talking about “clean slate” all week as together we work to de-clutter our lives! On Monday we chatted about cleaning up our “friends” list — both online and in real life — and today we’re focusing on cleaning out our closets + showing you 7 ways to rock 1 skirt!
It’s no secret that I have a TON of clothes (you can watch my closet tour here) and that’s because I LOVE CLOTHES! But I also like to clean out my entire closet about twice a month. Today I’ll be sharing my criteria on how I determine what to keep and what I do with the clothing I’m finished with.

SHOULD I STAY OR SHOULD I GO!
I’m no Marie Kondo and although I loved watching her show on organizing, her criteria for getting rid of clothes doesn’t really work for a crazy collector like me … so I created my own! For me, to keep a piece I ask myself…
1 – Does it fit me right now? My weight fluctuates often but holding on to clothes that don’t currently fit take up precious space. In addition, it can mess with your mental health!!
2 – Can I create five different outfits out of it? If not, it’s got to go! I only like to keep things I can wear and re-wear often!
3 – Can I dress it up or down? Although I love over-the-top outfits, I like most of my clothes to be able to go both ways. If I can wear it with heels or sneakers it’s a keeper!
If my answer to two or more of the questions is a firm “no”, then it’s got to go!!!

WHERE DOES IT GO?
I usually end up with 2-4 bags of clothes to donate every few weeks, so where do I send them?!
SHELTERS: I have two womens shelters I donate to often. To be honest, they don’t usually want my “crazy” clothes, so I make certain I am sending them primarily basics. In addition, I give them any extra unopened beauty, makeup and hygiene products when I can. Because they don’t pick up, I usually just messenger the items to them.
DRESS FOR SUCCESS: I send some of my dressier items here that the shelters don’t necessarily want! They help dress women in need for the workplace!
CROSSROADS: Crossroads is a resell store in the city that has been around for decades. They have a great pick-up program for bloggers and then they sift through the clothes and cut me a check! I can then donate that check to a cause I’m excited about at the time
HOUSING WORKS: Another great charity worth donating to is Housing Works!! While they don’t pick up clothing donations, because there are plenty of locations in the city, I just easily drop my items off!
This year I’ll be getting rid of more clothes than ever before, and also planning on selling some of them on either Poshmark of Depop! So if you’re interested in purchasing my clothes, stay tuned for that!!
