Out with the Old – In with the New!
Having too many clothes can be a big a problem, especially when you’re living in a New York apartment! Today I’m talking about transitioning into your Fall wardrobe and giving you a way to give back this season all while decluttering your life!
My apartment is just TOO SMALL to house all of my clothes all of the time. When I moved here a few years back in February, I left half of my spring clothes home in Arizona. When it became Summer, my mom sent them here and I had to find a place for all of my winter things! So for the first time, this west coast girl had to store half of her wardrobe!
By now you have probably switched out half of your wardrobe, storing your Spring and Summer things in time for Fall – OR maybe you pulled a Courtney and let your Fall things LOOSE without putting away your summer stuff #oops! Either way, changes are you have some things that you were so excited to rediscover (like that amazing vintage coat that’s been hibernating for the past six months) and somethings that you have totally outgrown on either a size or fashion level (like that collar necklace that was SO TRENDY last year, and you can’t STAND anymore … guilty). So why not cut ties with those pieces, and give your oldies a new life with someone who will love them all while doing some good! Sounds like a win win to me!
Fun fact, did you know I was a Big Sister (as in Big Brothers Big Sisters) in Arizona? What a cool experience!!! I was a really easy and rewarding way to give back to my community. So when Big Brothers Big Sisters & Savers teamed up to open new donation drop up stops in the greater Yonkers area, I know I had to share the story to those in that area! These donation drop post are open from 9AM to 5PM and I;ll list out all the donation centers at the bottom of this post!
Savers aims to create a better world by inspiring local communities to donate their reusable goods to the local nonprofits instead of just through them in the trash. We’ve all been temped, it’s usually easier to throw something out than (in my case) walk to the nearest donation location. BUT think of all the people that can benefit from your “trash” it can only become a treasure if you give it the chance by donating!!! As someone who shops A LOT at thrift stores and resale locations, I am forever grateful to the people who decided to git rid of some of their pieces the right way, and give their goods a second chance of life with someone new!
PLUS I like to reward myself with purchasing something new! Growing up, mom used to tell me, overtime I bought a new item I would have to get rid of one from my closet – that helped keep my clothing obsession under control, something I totally still need (check my closet in it’s current state for proof)Now as an adult I still (try) and keep up that habit, overtime I come home from a shopping binge, I relook at my wardrobe and start to donate or sell items that I know I no longer need! It’s refreshing!
SO what do you say, want to feel lighter, better and ready to take on the season? Try joining Savers in keeping more than 650 million pounds of reusable items out of landfills! The earth and future new-owners will thank you!
