Flash Dance

Me: “Hey P, how do I wear this without looking like a mechanic for the 80’s”
P: “You don’t, you just accept that you’re a maniac, maniac on the floor”.

If this look isn’t giving you serious Flashdance welder vibes than you obviously aren’t paying attention ?  although it wasn’t necessarily inspired by the iconic film, with my curly hair, oversized boiler suit and neon accesories I couldn’t help but draw the comparison when the outfit was complete.

Today I’m sharing how to dress up or dress down a denim boiler jumpsuit, plus sharing why I splurged on this very un-courtney like look and how I made it work for me!

I’ve been on the hunt for a good boiler suit for a while, but I really started to amp up the search after attending a Mural painting in Brooklyn and they put me in painter coveralls. I paired them with a belt and heels and LOVED how it looked … so the hunt was on.

Once I found this denim one, I wanted to give it a whirl. I don’t usually wear denim, but I thought this would be a fun way to get the look and challenge myself to dress outside the lines all at once. Jumpsuits rarely fit me, so I was surprised when this one did! The mom-jean-like style of the pants worked on my curvy girl frame, and the too-long-length of the jeans was easily fixed by a quick roll up. I looked too frumpy when I buttoned it up, so I wore a bralette underneath and left it kind of open and sometimes even off the shoulder.

For styling, I wanted to be able to dress it up and down especially since this style was kind of expensive (don’t worry I gave you look for less options and plus options down in the shop the look section). I think it looks best when dressed up with a bold heel, but had to try it with sneakers to see if it was worth investing in it. To my surprise it looked cute even with my favorite chunky sneakers, I think the style of the suit when paired with a old belt makes it flattering even without the added height of heels.

So what do you think? Would you give this look a whirl? I know it’s a totally different side of my style, but I always like experimenting and trying something new!
